Hilliard UMC serves others and builds community…
Be the church: All are encouraged to serve beyond the walls of the church in some way or another, based on your areas of giftedness and ministry passion. Contact the church office to serve: 614.876.2403, email@example.com.
Mission Item of the Month: gloves, socks, & hats
Watch the Sunday worship folder for the Mission Item of the Month, benefitting the Hilliard Food Pantry, the Thursday Street Feed, or another worthy mission.
Pick up a reusable shopping bag to keep in your car, a grocery list, and some prayer cards (available in each building). Then shop and fill bags with nonperishable food items using the list of suggestions. Hand them to those who are in need while you’re out and about. Ask their name and how you can be praying for them. Offer a prayer right then if you’re comfortable doing so.
books in little hands
Donate new or gently-used children’s books, which are distributed to young readers in the greater Columbus area through ten local food pantries, including Hilliard Food Pantry. In 2019 Books In Little Hands received 8180 books and distributed 7333, thanks to Hilliard UMC’s and the community’s generosity! Contacts: Bill & Diane Bates.
FEEDING HILLIARD STUDENTS
In partnership with Hilliard Kiwanis, come fill weekend food bags for 100 students with food insecurity in the Hilliard City School District. Meets every Wednesday at 7pm, Warehouse 839 storage area. Prepping these bags only takes about 20 minutes, so all ages are encouraged to participate. Contact Jeff Decker for information or to serve (contact information in the worship folder or church office, firstname.lastname@example.org, 614.876.2403). Formerly called WeFUEL.
Volunteers representing Hilliard UMC are needed each week during Farm Market season to make this meaningful outreach possible (Tuesdays, 4-7pm, late May through early September). When you serve, wear your blue “God loves you no matter what” tee shirt (available for purchase through the church office for $10).
Collect nonperishable groceries for the Hilliard Food Pantry to distribute to families in need in Hilliard. Year-round, with special Thanksgiving and summertime collections. Meals on Wheels
Deliver meals to the homebound in and around Hilliard. Contact Carolyn Bowman to get involved.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile comes to Hilliard UMC several times a year on Sundays, 8:30am-1:30pm. Even one pint of blood can help many patients. Give blood, welcome donors, help with registration, donate snacks, or help with set up and/or clean up. Contact Chris Rodgers to serve.
Join our annual Thanksgiving food drive, in partnership with Hilliard City Schools and the Hilliard Food Pantry, where we bring in and process around 1,000 bags of food and provide 300+ families with Thanksgiving dinner and pantry staples for the rest of the weekend. Grab some brown bags from church, buy the items on the list, and return to church. Volunteer for bag checking and organizing Friday night, or greeting and hospitality on Saturday, distribution to families, and clean up. It all happens the weekend before Thanksgiving.
The 2019 Thanksgiving Outreach touched nearly 1000 people here in our Hilliard community. More than 250 families were given a full Thanksgiving meal plus bonus bags of food to fill a pantry. We are so grateful for everyone who gave of their time and energy to sort bags, unload trucks, and make every guest feel the love of God through HUMC. We look forward to many more opportunities together in service as we seek to be a blessing to our community.
